Project description:

The dissertation project with the (working) title "Temporal Turmoil in Digital Games" is dedicated to various forms of unnatural and non-linear temporalities in digital games and analyzes and explores them as rules, mechanics, as well as a narrative device.

In three overarching categories, cyclical, serial, and layered temporalities are explored in their own particularities, but also always thought of together and connected to further fundamental theories of play. The selected case studies of the working corpus implement their specific temporalities as an explicit playing field and set of rules and thus serve as objects of observation as well as for specific theorizing.
